BBVA Bancomer Corporate Headquarters

Ormazabal, a world leader in the supply of high added value products and services for electricity grids, has supplied the equipment for two important projects by Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) in Mexico: BBVA Bancomer Tower and BBVA Bancomer Operations Centre.

BBVA Bancomer, the second tallest skyscraper in Mexico City, has 52 floors and is over 240 metres high. Our supply focuses mainly on medium voltage switchgear, providing 44 integrated gas-insulated cubicles for secondary distribution of the cgmcosmos system (24 kV / 630 A / 20 kA), and 38 cpg.0 integrated gas-insulated cubicles for primary distribution (24 kV / 630 A / 25 kA), with automation and protection units developed in-house for the ekorsys family.

In the Operations Centre, which has 32 floors and stands 137 metres tall, we supplied, installed and commissioned 11 cpg.1 integrated insulation cubicles (27 kV, 630 A, 31.5 kA) for primary distribution. The programmable ekor.stp transfer unit was included in the project in order to carry out automatic transfer between the different supply lines and the power generator, installed in H-type with uncoupled return to the main line. Finally, the entire facility was automated, adapting it to BBVA’s own SCADA using the ekor.uct compact remote control unit.

Ormazabal has been present on the Mexican market since 1999. In 2012 the subsidiary Ormazabal México was constituted which, from its headquarters in Mexico City, also manages Central America and the Caribbean, offering the entire Ormazabal portfolio of products and services. Our experience has resulted in the installation of over 5,000 medium-voltage units in Mexico and over 2,000 in Central America and the Caribbean. The fact that our main products are approved by the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) and by major utility companies in the region has enabled us to participate in a multitude of projects, both in distribution networks and in high-voltage / medium-voltage substations.
