Ormazabal supplies its MV Equipment for the operation of the floating turning gates at Port of Brest no 3 Dry Dock, one of the largest European dry dock facilitiesLocated at the crossroads of numerous north-south and east-west sea routes, at “end of the world”, in Brittany, the port of Brest has remarkable nautical qualities and high performing facilities.
Within its facilities it counts with the first French centre of naval repair. It has a renowned reputation by ship-owners worldwide. This centre accommodates more than 100 ships per annum of many types,in particular gas carriers or oil tanquers.
With the objective of keeping its installations at top of quality, the CCI (Chambre de Commerce etd’Industrie)-Port de Commerce of Brest has undertaken the modernisation of the biggest within the three dry docks it has. This is Dry Dock no 3 which has 420m long x 80m width and 550,000Tdw (tonnes dead weight).
The project has been awarded at the beginning of 2011 to the companies SPIE OUEST-CENTRE, Ets. MEUNIER and SECOFLUID.
The electrical works undertaken by SPIEOUEST-CENTRE included the modernization of the existing MV equipment. This supply was awarded to ORMAZABAL.
It included the supply of MV cubicles type CGMCOSMOS and LV/MV tropicalized Distribution Transformer.
Key to this supply was equipment’s reliability for assuring a correct and on time operation of the floating turning gates.
Additionally, harsh environmental conditions, in an industrial and marine environment, were as well main decision criteria. Then, integral insulation equipment, such as CGMCOSMOS range, was clearly the choice.
