We celebrate 30 years in Madrid as the largest manufacturer of electrical transformers in Spain.

  • Throughout these three decades we have manufactured more than 300,000 transformers in our plant in Loeches (Community Madrid) from which we export to more than 20 countries and where we have a team of nearly 300 people.

  • The Minister of Economy, Finance and Employment in the Community of Madrid, Rocío Albert López-Ibor, visited our plant last week on the occasion of this anniversary, accompanied by the General Director of Economy and Industry of the Community of Madrid, Jaime Martínez Muñoz; the Mayor of Loeches, Antonio Theodori Andrés; the President of Ormazabal, Javier Ormazabal; the CEO of Ormazabal, Jorge González; the Director of the plant, Juan Miguel Muñoz; and Guillermo Amann, director of institutional and sector relations at Ormazabal.

  • At the meeting, we detailed our growth and investment plan to expand the plant’s industrial capacity, promote digitalization and the incorporation of new technologies, and advance its commitment to energy transition and sustainability, reaffirming its commitment to industrialization, job creation, and the economic development of the environment.

At Ormazabal, a company specialized in technological solutions for the electrical grid, we are celebrating 30 years in our plant in Loeches (Community of Madrid), currently the largest manufacturer of electrical transformers in Spain. With more than 300,000 transformers developed over these three decades and a team of nearly 300 professionals at its facilities in Loeches, we continue with our growth plan to expand industrial capacity, promote digitalization and the incorporation of new technologies, and advance our commitment to energy transition and sustainability. We thus reaffirm our commitment to industrialization, job creation, and the economic development of the area.

On the occasion of this anniversary, the Regional Minister of Economy, Finance, and Employment of the Community of Madrid, Rocío Albert López-Ibor, visited the plant last week, accompanied by the Director General of Economy and Industry of the Community of Madrid, Jaime Martínez Muñoz; the Mayor of Loeches, Antonio Theodori Andrés; Ormazabal’s president, Javier Ormazabal; Ormazabal’s CEO, Jorge González; and plant director, Juan Miguel Muñoz; and Guillermo Amann, director of institutional and sector relations at Ormazabal.

During the meeting, they toured the facilities which, after an investment of more than 15 million euros in the last 5 years, have been expanded and improved to increase our capacity and efficiency. During the visit, they were able to see first-hand a plant specialized in the production of medium-voltage electrical transformers with a high degree of digitalization and automation, to adapt to the needs of electricity grid operators and customers, with an annual manufacturing capacity equivalent to 7 GW, enough power to recharge 100,000 electric vehicles.

For the next 5 years, we plan another investment of 15 million euros, increasing our production capacities to meet the demand for transformers for the electricity distribution network, electric mobility infrastructure, renewable energy generation and data processing centers, among other segments. Likewise, we will promote the implementation of technologies based on artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data, to optimize processes.

Economic and social engine of the environment

Since it was launched 30 years ago, the Loeches plant has established itself as one of the main economic and social engines of its environment, exporting to more than 20 countries, as well as contributing to the creation of employment, wealth and added value. With a team of nearly 300 professionals, the facility maintains close collaboration with the industrial value chain, with whom it works in a coordinated manner to strengthen the local productive fabric, as well as with the surrounding training centers and universities to promote the region’s talent.

Thus, the Community of Madrid is one of our strategic axes, and we currently have a team of more than 400 professionals, including the Our facilities in Getafe employ more than 110 people, dedicated to application engineering and customer support. We also generate more than 100 indirect jobs and invest more than 50% of our purchases annually in Madrid-based suppliers. All of this reaffirms our commitment to industrial activity as a driving force for transformation towards a more sustainable and efficient electricity grid, from the territory where we have located our headquarters for almost six decades.

Commitment to technology and sustainability

Technology, innovation, and commitment to Sustainability is a fundamental pillar of Ormazabal’s strategy, along with the promotion of key trends such as energy transition, digitalization, and cybersecurity.

In this context, we are firmly committed to R&D&I as a driver of competitiveness, with the aim of optimizing processes, managing facilities and equipment more efficiently, reducing operating and maintenance costs, minimizing environmental impact, and developing new products and services.

In 2024 alone, we will allocate approximately 4% of our turnover to activities related to R&D&I, which reinforces our position as a leader in the development of advanced technological solutions for the electrical grid of the future.
