Capital Energy requests the installation of four wind farms in Aragon with a total combined capacity of 504 megawatts.

The Ministry for Ecological Transition has made public the authorization requests for the development of these wind power projects in Aragon, capable of producing more than 1.5 million clean megawatt hours per year

Capital Energy, a Spanish energy company with the intention of becoming the first 100% renewable vertically integrated operator in the Iberian Peninsula, has requested the Ministry for Ecological Transition’s approval for the development of four important wind power projects in Aragon that would add up to a total capacity of 504 megawatts: Céfiro, with 192 MW; Paucali, with 114 MW; Arlo, with 102 MW; and Argestes, with 96 MW. These projects, which are still awaiting approval from the Ministry, would require an investment of 330 million euros by the Spanish company.

According to a press release published by Capital Energy itself on its website, the Ministry for Ecological Transition has made public the authorization requests for these four parks, capable of producing more than 1.5 million MWh per year, enough to supply clean energy to nearly 630,000 Aragonese homes, and which would prevent the emission of almost 600,000 tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere. On the other hand, and according to the company itself, the construction of these would entail the creation of around 2,900 jobs during the peak period of the works, resulting in permanent employment of 100 professionals for operation and maintenance tasks.

With these four projects, the energy company intends to boost its participation in the development of wind farms in Aragon, where it already has 1.5 GW of installed capacity spread over more than a dozen projects. In recent months, Capital Energy has made progress in the processing of contracts for the Biota and Muno wind farms (in the Zaragoza region of Cinco Villas), Diana and Vientos del Sur (in the Zaragoza region of Campo de Borja), and Las Mareas I and II (in the Bajo Cinca region, part of the provinces of Huesca and Zaragoza). These projects have a total capacity of 580 MW.

The four wind farms have the following characteristics:

• Argestes wind farm.It would be located in the municipalities of La Fresneda, Fórnoles, La Portellada, and Ráfales, in the province of Teruel. Its evacuation infrastructure will be located in the Teruel municipalities of La Fresneda, Valjunquera, Valdeltormo, and Mazaleón. Its construction will entail an investment of around €60 million. It will have 16 wind turbines with a unit power of 6 MW for a capacity of 96 MW and will be able to produce more than 290,400 MWh per year, enough to cover the electricity supply of almost 120,000 homes. Argestes will also prevent the annual emission of around 110,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
• Arlo wind farm:Arlo will involve an investment of almost 62 million euros and will be built in the municipalities of Maella, in the province of Zaragoza, and Valdealgorfa and Mazaleón, in the province of Teruel. These last two towns will also host its evacuation infrastructure. It will have an installed capacity of 102 MW, spread across 17 turbines of 6 MW each, and will be capable of producing more than 295,600 MWh. It will be able to supply clean electricity to around 120,000 homes, avoiding the emission of around 110,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
• Paucali Wind Farm:Paucali will have 19 wind turbines of 6 MW each, which will combine an installed capacity of 114 MW and will be able to supply more than 332,200 MWh per year, enough to cover the energy demand of around 135,000 homes. This wind farm, which will prevent the emission of around 130,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere annually, will be located in Maella, and its evacuation infrastructure will be located in Maella and Mazaleón. Its development will mobilize a total investment of more than 73 million euros. Céfiro wind farm: With an investment of 135 million euros, Céfiro will be located in the municipalities of Mazaleón, Valdeltormo, Valjunquera, La Fresneda, and Fórnoles and will share evacuation infrastructure with the three wind farms already mentioned. This will be built in the municipalities of Mazaleón and Calaceite, in the province of Teruel; Maella, in the province of Zaragoza; and Casares, Batea, Villalba dels Arcs, La Pobla de Massaluca, La Fatarella and Ascó, in the province of Tarragona. Its 32 turbines with a total capacity of 6 MW each will have a total capacity of 192 MW and will be able to generate more than 597,100 MWh per year, supplying clean electricity to almost 250,000 homes, while also preventing the annual emission of around 235,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
