The Burgos municipalities of La Huesa, Valdesantos and Orbaneja will become three references this year in terms of Spanish wind power, as they are the location chosen by Iberdrola for the installation of 14 wind turbines built by Siemens Gamesa, which will be the most powerful wind turbines in Spain, reaching 4.5 megawatts of power each unit. The wind turbines will be located in three different locations within the Herrera Wind Complex, totaling 63 megawatts of installed capacity.
The model chosen by Iberdrola is the S.G 4.5-145, from the German-Spanish company, which has a diameter of 145 meters and blades that are 71 meters long. These dimensions, unprecedented in Spain to date, are responsible for “a greater capacity to adapt to sites with very diverse wind conditions and different logistical restrictions”, which makes this model an ideal solution for sites with medium wind speeds.
On the other hand, Iberdrola has also announced the installation of a fourth facility, Fuenteblanca, with three wind turbines, also from Siemens Gamesa, model S.G 3.4-132, adding another 10 megawatts to this wind complex.
This news comes in a month in which the European Wind Energy Association (WindEurope) is putting on the table the need to install up to 30 GW of wind energy per year, compared to the 15.4 GW equipped in 2019, to comply with the new European green framework, the so-called Green Deal, which seeks to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.
