Murcia will host the largest photovoltaic installation in Europe

The macro-photovoltaic installation project in Murcia, promoted by the German company Promosolar Juwi, will have a capacity of 450 MW, occupying 1,088 hectares of land

Photovoltaic energy seems to be making a strong comeback in Spain. The region of Murcia is close to hosting the largest photovoltaic installation on the old continent. The German-owned company Promosolar Juwi plans to install a photovoltaic system in Murcia.

A plant that, with 1,088 hectares of occupation, would have a capacity of 450 MW. Figures that would make it the largest installation of this type in Europe, whether in surface area or production.

The plan, which took its first steps in 2012, is authorized by the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC). Although it is conditioned on the capitalization of the Spanish company that leads this installation, which will require an investment of around 800 million euros. A condition that does not seem to be far from the plans of the German company. Which has a history of investments in different projects in the sector, close to 7,000 million euros.

A photovoltaic niche with this photovoltaic installation in Murcia

Although this photovoltaic installation in Murcia stands out as an important investment in the territory, it is not the only plan related to solar energy in Murcia.

Other projects make this Spanish region attractive for investment in solar energy, which has been paralyzed in recent years in Spain. Among them are Würth, which proposed the construction of a plant with a capacity of 287 MW, and Andaltia, which is promoting another plant close to 400 MW,

The installation of this photovoltaic facility in Murcia has been in the works since 2012. But it is only now that all the authorizations are beginning to be ready. Since the CNMC report also gives the go-ahead for a substation necessary to evacuate the electricity produced by this macro plant.

The approval also coincides with the next auction being prepared by the Ministry. The company assured at the time that the facility would be built without subsidies. Right now, the doors are open for it to be able to participate in it.
