On Friday 26 June, we held the official ground-breaking ceremony for our new German headquarters in Krefeld. With this new building, we are creating a new hub for Germany, Central and Eastern Europe. In future, the headquarters will bring together engineering, technical project implementation, service, sales and departments specialising in the customisation of systems. The aim is to provide our customers in Germany with tailored support to meet the requirements of modern energy distribution and medium-voltage technology. The building is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Our approximately 70 employees will then relocate from our current site in Krefeld to a location some three kilometres to the north. Ormazabal employs a total of around 90 people in Germany.
“I am delighted that a modern and growing company such as Ormazabal is making a long-term commitment to Krefeld as a business location. Not only was a suitable site found in Fichtenhain for the German headquarters, but the area also offers the perfect environment for a technology-oriented, internationally positioned company. I wish Ormazabal and its staff all the best for the construction phase and their work at the new site,” said Frank Meyer, Lord Mayor of the City of Krefeld, at the official ground-breaking ceremony.
With the gradual phase-out of the insulating gas SF6 across Europe, demand for SF6-free switchgear is growing significantly. We are developing solutions for the safe and efficient operation of medium-voltage networks. Our switchgear is based on ‘industrial natural air’ and operates entirely without F-gases. Ormazabal deliberately relies on proven technical parameters to ensure operational continuity, minimise risks and enable network operators a reliable transition to SF6-free technologies. In future, our site in Krefeld will tailor these solutions even more closely to the requirements of the German market and network operators.
The new site in Krefeld will play a central role in the customised expansion of switchgear and the technical adaptation of solutions for the German market. This includes technical connection conditions, specifications from the Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (VDE), and specific requirements from grid operators.
For Ormazabal, Germany is one of the most important markets for energy distribution solutions and the integration of renewable energy sources. “The expansion of the electricity grids is one of the key challenges of the energy transition. With the new site, we are creating even better conditions for offering technologies for the German market and adapting them to individual requirements,” says Markus Kiefer, member of the management board at Ormazabal GmbH. “We want to support our customers closely and practically as they transition to SF₆-free technologies.”
We have had a presence in Krefeld since 2004; with the new building, we are relocating our operations to the Fichtenhainer Allee Business Park.
The new headquarters is being built on a site covering more than 12,000 square metres and is due to be ready for occupation in 2027. The office and technical areas can be expanded in future to allow the site to be flexibly adapted to market requirements. Ormazabal is investing a total of around ten million euros in the new headquarters.
