Our presence in Brazil marks an important milestone this week as we celebrate the achievement of our first 25 years since our arrival in the country. During this time, we have contributed to some of the most significant electrical grid projects in Brazil, with the goal of enhancing the security of electricity supply and facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources. To commemorate this anniversary, we held an event in São Paulo and a visit to the Ormazabal facilities in São Sebastião do Passé (Bahia), which was attended by Urbano Murillo, Chief Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Spanish Embassy in São Paulo, Nilza da Mata, Mayor of São Sebastião do Passé, as well as company representatives.
In the words of Jorge González, CEO of Ormazabal, “we trust that we will continue helping to connect more renewable energy, bringing our expertise in the sector so that Brazil remains a global leader in green energy production.” This was echoed by Alberto Paniagua, Manager of Ormazabal in Brazil, who stated that “the renovation and modernization of our office, as well as the expansion of our production center, are clear examples of our commitment to adapting to the needs of an increasingly demanding and diverse market.”
In addition, the Spanish delegation was complemented by Javier Ormazabal Echevarria, President of Velatia – the family-owned business group to which Ormazabal belongs – and Alejandro Ormazabal Echevarria, Vice President of Velatia; both wanted to be present for the first quarter-century milestone of a presence that is highly significant for the business group.
Ormazabal’s presence in Brazil dates back to the year 2000, when we opened our commercial office in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, with just 5 employees. Today, we have more than 40 employees, divided between our São Paulo commercial office, which handles services and engineering, and our industrial facilities in São Sebastião do Passé, where medium-voltage switchgear is manufactured and adapted for the local market, along with the integration of key grid components such as transformers and low-voltage boards. These facilities, recently remodeled with a strong technological focus, are capable of producing 1,200 units per year to meet the growing investment needs in improving the electrical grid.
Thus, over the company’s 25 years of activity in the country, Ormazabal has worked alongside major companies such as Neoenergia, ENEL, Equatorial, Vestas, SGRE, and many others across different sectors; as well as participated in major Brazilian projects like the Iguazú and Maringá airports, and the Campo Largo and Chafariz wind farms.
