At Ormazabal, a company specializing in technological solutions for the electrical grid, we celebrate 30 years at our Loeches plant (Community of Madrid), currently the largest manufacturer of electrical transformers in Spain. With over 300,000 transformers developed over these three decades and a team of nearly 300 professionals at our Loeches facilities, we continue our growth plan to expand industrial capacity, drive digitalization and the adoption of new technologies, and further our commitment to energy transition and sustainability. This reaffirms our dedication to industrialization, job creation, and economic development in the region.
To commemorate this anniversary, Rocío Albert López-Ibor, Regional Minister of Economy, Finance and Employment of the Community of Madrid, visited the plant last week, accompanied by Jaime Martínez Muñoz, Director General of Economy and Industry; Antonio Theodori Andrés, Mayor of Loeches; Javier Ormazabal, President of Ormazabal; Jorge González, CEO; Juan Miguel Muñoz, Plant Director; and Guillermo Amann, Director of Institutional and Sectoral Relations.
During the visit, they toured the facilities, which have been expanded and upgraded following an investment of over €15 million in the past five years to boost our capacity and efficiency. They witnessed firsthand a plant specialized in producing medium-voltage electrical transformers with a high degree of digitalization and automation, tailored to the needs of grid operators and customers. The plant has an annual manufacturing capacity equivalent to 7 GW—enough power to recharge 100,000 electric vehicles.
Looking ahead to the next five years, we plan an additional €15 million investment to further increase our production capacity and meet the growing demand for transformers used in the electrical distribution grid, electric mobility infrastructure, renewable energy generation, and data processing centers, among other sectors. We will also promote the implementation of technologies based on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data to optimize processes.
Since its launch 30 years ago, the Loeches plant has become one of the main economic and social drivers in its area, exporting to over 20 countries and contributing to job creation, wealth generation, and added value. With a team of nearly 300 professionals, the facility maintains close collaboration with the industrial value chain, working in coordination to strengthen the local production network, as well as with nearby educational centers and universities to foster regional talent.
The Community of Madrid is one of our strategic hubs. We currently have a team of over 400 professionals, including more than 110 people at our Getafe facilities, dedicated to application engineering and customer support. Additionally, we generate over 100 indirect jobs and invest more than 50% of our annual purchases in Madrid-based suppliers. All of this reinforces our commitment to industrial activity as a transformative force toward a more sustainable and efficient electrical grid, from the region where our headquarters have been located for nearly six decades.
Technology, innovation, and sustainability are core pillars of Ormazabal’s strategy, alongside key trends such as energy transition, digitalization, and cybersecurity.
In this context, we strongly support R&D&I as a driver of competitiveness, aiming to optimize processes, manage facilities and equipment more efficiently, reduce operational and maintenance costs, minimize environmental impact, and develop new products and services.
In 2024 alone, we allocated approximately 4% of our revenue to R&D&I activities, reinforcing our position as a benchmark in the development of advanced technological solutions for the electrical grid of the future.
