GRAT - Low Voltage Network Management

This project is led by ORMAZABAL PROTECTION & AUTOMATION, in collaboration with AISLANTES SOLIDOS and the ORMAZABAL CORPORATE TECHNOLOGY technology center.

The GRAT project is part of the Basque Government’s “HAZITEK” program. It is being developed during the years 2020-2021.

Goals:

The objective of the project will be the development of a low-voltage network voltage regulation system that maintains the voltage at the optimal operating point and always within regulatory limits.

Others:

To achieve this main objective, the following partial objectives are proposed:

  • Development of an intelligent distribution transformer with on-load tap changer, for medium voltage (MV) networks up to 36 kV and transformer capacities between 250 kVA and 8,000 kVA, which allows automatic voltage regulation, facilitating the integration of new renewables and electric vehicles without building additional electrical infrastructure.
  • Development of an advanced low-voltage monitoring system to be integrated into the low-voltage switchboard.
  • Development of control algorithms for the smart transformer tap so that, based on the measurements provided by advanced monitoring and load characterization carried out by the smart transformer itself, the tap that optimizes the exploitation of the low voltage network can be determined.
  • Design of the low voltage panel for the integration of the advanced low voltage monitoring system.
