GRAT – Low Voltage Network Management

This project is led by ORMAZABAL PROTECTION & AUTOMATION, in collaboration with AISLANTES SOLIDOS and the ORMAZABAL CORPORATE TECHNOLOGY technology center.

The GRAT project is part of the Basque Government’s “HAZITEK” program. It will be developed during the years 2020 -2021.

Objectives:

The objective of the project will be the development of a voltage regulation system for the low-voltage network that maintains the voltage at the optimal operating point and always within the regulatory limits.

Others:

To achieve this main objective, the following partial objectives are proposed:

  • Development of an intelligent distribution transformer with an on-load tap changer, for medium-voltage (MV) networks of up to 36 kV and transformer powers between 250 kVA and 8,000 kVA, which allows automatic voltage regulation, facilitating the integration of new renewables and electric vehicles without building electrical infrastructures additional.
  • Development of an advanced low-voltage monitoring system to be integrated into the low-voltage panel.
  • Development of smart transformer tap control algorithms so that, based on the measurements provided by the advanced monitoring and the load characterization carried out by the smart transformer itself, the tap that optimizes the operation of the low-voltage network can be determined.
  • Design of the low-voltage panel for the integration of the advanced low-voltage monitoring system.

GRAT is a project co-financed by the BASQUE GOVERNMENT and the EUROPEAN UNION through the European Regional Development Fund 2021-2027 (ERDF).
