Measurement solution for wind turbine applications

Due to the new billing requirements imposed on wind turbines in some specific markets, an MV measurement solution is required as an “add-on” to the standard equipment normally supplied. In this case, beyond the challenge of maintaining the standard product, we had to define a solution that could be assembled and disassembled through the wind turbine tower door and that was compatible with local metrology certification approved by approved laboratories or companies.

Ormazabal Solution and Challenge:

After knowing the market and project requirements, Ormazabal began the design of the solution in constant collaboration with the client as well as with local approved companies in order to achieve an approved solution within the tight project timeframe.

Together with the client, mechanical and electrical checkpoints were assessed during the design phase through 3D models and single-line diagrams. The continuous increase in the nominal power of the wind turbines required a design in which the voltage and current transformers met the short and medium term product requirements, which meant having additional design information during product development.
