MERIT – Methodology for Efficiently Reducing the Inrush current in Transformers

The MERITO project is a project led by Ormazabal within the framework of the Basque Government’s “HAZITEK” program. It will be developed during the years 2017 and 2018.

Objectives:

The objective of the project will be the development of an integrated connection and disconnection system, start&stop, of electrical distribution transformers that allows the limitation of the magnetizing current of the magnetic core (inrush current) that is generated when connecting the transformer and of the overvoltages that are generated when disconnecting the transformers in vacuum (cutting off the magnetizing current).
