Non-containerized self-supporting metal substation

Ormazabal has carried out the engineering of a metal substation by developing a solution based on a custom-made enclosure with an autonomous lifting system, which provides a differential value compared to those of the maritime container type.

Self-supporting substation

  • Metal enclosure with autonomous lifting system: Design, engineering and customization by Ormazabal
  • CPG cells. 0 MV single primary distribution bar: up to 36 kV / 1250 A / 31.5 kA from Ormazabal
  • Multifunction electronic protection and control units
  • 250 kVA biodegradable liquid dielectric transformer for auxiliary services
  • Multiple auxiliary power supply options: TSA, CETAC B1 and B2 sockets.
  • Substation control system (UCS)
  • Other equipment according to the codes approved by the client (transformer protection cabinet, auxiliary services distribution cabinet, DC power supply equipment, etc.)

Ormazabal solution and challenge:

Ormazabal has extensive experience in the construction of substations in maritime container format. On this occasion, we have met our client’s needs, carrying out the engineering of this substation in a novel enclosure, which allows it to be transportable by road without special or complex requirements, usable in temporary or permanent locations, but above all it responds to the requirement of being self-unloading.

To this end, Ormazabal has designed a solution based on an ad-hoc metal building, which has the peculiarity of having an autonomous lifting system by means of four extendable support legs. This gives it ergonomics and portability, with a substantial advantage: the elimination of the use of a crane or other lifting equipment for loading or unloading onto a truck.

The autonomous lifting system uses a hydraulic drive that is integral with the enclosure. To power the operation, the equipment has a 12 kVA generator installed inside. This combination gives this metal substation a differential advantage over other solutions: its ease of installation in difficult-to-reach areas, eliminating additional costs and time for loading/unloading, and consequently, allowing the substation to be up and running in a very short time.

Main benefits for the client:

  • Installation without a crane. Elimination of additional transport times and costs
  • Start-up in less time than other conventional solutions
  • Enclosure customized to the client’s standards
  • Turnkey solution
