Ormazabal guarantees a reliable power supply for a food center in Germany

The German food retailer Edeka Rhein-Ruhr is investing €100 million in Moers-Utfort and is building a state-of-the-art local procurement center on a 125,000 m² site. Nearly 6,000 kVA of processing power will ensure the electricity supply there. Our solutions team has developed a complete package for the medium-voltage components used in the transformer substations, including Ormazabal protection technology, specially tailored to local conditions and the grid operator’s requirements.

Ormazabal solution and challenge:

Four transformer substations, including two distribution substations with gae switchgear and two substations with ga compact switchgear, supply electricity to the building complex. Due to the strategic position of the stations on the premises, the use of several hundred meters of LV cabling could be avoided. At the request of the distribution network operator, we adapted the feeder panels installed at the two central distribution centers to allow for remote control technology. To achieve this, the cable fields were monitored, and a 60 VDC UPS system integrated into the relay box was used. The MV feeder panels were equipped with Ormazabal’s own protection technology, which was also specially configured for the project according to the distribution network operator’s specifications. It was pre-tested at the factory, so no additional testing was necessary at the customer’s premises.

For the smooth operation of the supermarket, the administration office, and especially the data center, fail-safe operation is of utmost importance. Therefore, the protection technology was designed so that, in the event of a fault, only the affected section would be disconnected from the grid. Outgoing feeders that did not experience a fault remain connected. This ensures the best possible supply for the entire building complex during network operation.
