SHUNT – Hybrid System for a New Interrupter

This project is led by ORMAZABAL and COMPANY, in collaboration with ORMAZABAL PROTECTION & AUTOMATION and the ORMAZABAL CORPORATE TECHNOLOGY technology center.

The SHUNT project is part of the Basque Government’s “HAZITEK” program. It will be developed during the years 2020 – 2022.

Objectives:

The main objective of the project is to develop a solution that allows the management of electrical energy both for the integration of renewable energy sources and its distribution to consumption, where the concept of a circular economy is established as a fundamental requirement.

Others:

The concept of a circular economy will be achieved by:

  1. Promoting the lowest environmental impact by using SF6-free insulation for the cell standard line of the Cosmos 24 kV/630 A/25 kA family. This will require a design based on the concept of a “vacuum cylinder in parallel with the main circuit.”
  2. Promoting the concept of reuse, seeking a “drop-in” solution that not only allows for a fully interchangeable cell with the current SF6 cell and of the same dimensions, but also uses all the standard elements it contains. Maintaining the same size will prevent modifications to current substations, thereby reducing the environmental impact that this entails. Furthermore, the use of current subassemblies, used in the SF6 concept, will result in a reduction in components, increased reliability, durability and validity of the instructions for use, maintenance, and end of life.
