SMARTTRAFO - para Smart Grids

Ormazabal leads the SMARTTRAFO project, part of the MINECO’s “Collaborative Challenges” program. The project runs from 2016 to 2018, with the participation of DIAEL, F2I2, and the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

Goals:

The project’s objective is the development of a Smart Transformer for networks up to 24 kV and transformer capacities between 250 kVA and 2000 kVA, enabling voltage regulation and facilitating the integration of new renewable energy sources without constructing additional electrical infrastructure. This will be achieved by ensuring safety through the development of specific protection relays and by including preventive maintenance via an online partial discharge diagnostic system.

Project funded by:

Project co-financed by the program “Collaboration Challenges of the State Program for Research, Development and Innovation oriented to the challenges of society”, of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, and by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union.
