Spain's first ultra-fast renewable charging station launches

Spain’s first ultra-fast electric vehicle charging station powered by photovoltaic solar energy has begun operating in the town of Estepona, in Malaga.

The town of Estepona in Malaga has put itself on the map for electric vehicles and renewable energy following the announcement by the Andalusian Energy Agency of the opening of Spain’s first ultra-fast electric vehicle charging station powered by photovoltaic solar energy. The facility, implemented by the Easycharger group, features two 90-kilowatt charging points (expandable to 180 kW) and a pergola with photovoltaic panels that will supply 21,153 kilowatts of renewable energy per year.

On the other hand, the implementation of this energy milestone has been incentivized with a grant of €360,000, 75% of the total investment, from the Regional Government of Andalusia, an entity attached to theMinistries of the Presidency, Public Administration and the Interior; and Finance and European Funding, within theProgram for the Sustainable Energy Development of Andalusia, co-financed with fundsFEDERTherefore, this charging point will allow the user’s electric vehicle to travel approximately 160 kilometers with just a 15-minute charge. The service is located at a Galp service station in the aforementioned Andalusian town.

The inauguration took place on April 15th and was led by the managing director of theAndalusian Energy AgencyFrancisco Javier Ramírez, who declared the importance of this type of facility, whose operation is based on the use of clean energy, to “reduce the existing gap between the demand for electric vehicles and the provision of public access infrastructure”; an objective thatpublic plans like MovesThey try to cover it. Furthermore, the following were present during the inauguration.Laura Serrano, Director of Electric Vehicles and Infrastructure at NissanIgnacio de Prada, from the Multi-Energy and Mobility department of Galp in Spain and Daniel Pérez, CEO of Easycharger.

Regarding the sustainable mobility incentive programs currently in operation, Francisco Javier Ramírez commented thatMOVES IIThe program, endowed with 17 million euros, “allows for the acquisition of alternative energy vehicles, the installation of charging infrastructure or bicycle loan systems. It also promotes sustainable mobility initiatives. And within 3 months we will publish the Andalusian call for proposals to launch MOVES III, whose regulatory framework was published just yesterday by the Ministry.”
