Artificial energy islands to supply Denmark

The European country is studying the creation of two artificial energy islands that would house two offshore wind farms and would supply 4 GW in their initial phase

Reclaiming land from the sea for human activity is as old as civilization itself. Many nations have specialized in this, and several projects in recent years have impressed the world with their complexity. From the well-known “Palm Tree” and “The World Archipelago” projects in Dubai, to the offshore expansion projects ofHong KongThese types of mega-projects have attempted to overcome various difficulties, such as lack of space or complicated spelling. Added to this is a major plan by Denmark that aims to construct two large artificial energy islands.

While the purpose of the large engineering project that the Nordic country presented some time agoin 2019The plan, which now seems to be making steady progress, is quite different. Denmark wants to develop two large artificial islands in order to concentrate its two industries on them.offshore wind farmsThese artificial energy islands, part of an energy plan presented by the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Supply, would allow Denmark to achieve a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. The first would start with a capacity of 2 GW, with room for future expansion to 10 GW, while the second would also start with a capacity of 2 GW.

Both projects would set a precedent for renewable energy and its environmental impact. This initial 4 GW would double Denmark’s current offshore wind capacity, significantly advancing its plans to reduce polluting emissions into the atmosphere.
