At Ormazabal, a company specializing in technological solutions for the electrical grid, we are celebrating 30 years at our plant in Loeches (Community of Madrid), currently the largest manufacturer of electrical transformers in Spain. With over 300,000 transformers developed over these three decades and a team of nearly 300 professionals at our Loeches facilities, we continue with our growth plan to expand industrial capacity, promote digitalization and the incorporation of new technologies, and advance our commitment to the energy transition and sustainability. We thus reaffirm our commitment to industrialization, job creation, and the economic development of the surrounding area.
To mark this anniversary, the Minister of Economy, Finance and Employment in the Community of Madrid, Rocío Albert López-Ibor, visited the plant last week, accompanied by the Director General of Economy and Industry of the Community of Madrid, Jaime Martínez Muñoz; the Mayor of Loeches, Antonio Theodori Andrés; the President of Ormazabal, Javier Ormazabal; the CEO of Ormazabal, Jorge González; the Plant Director, Juan Miguel Muñoz; and Guillermo Amann, Director of Institutional and Sectoral Relations at Ormazabal.
During the meeting, they toured the facilities, which, following an investment of over €15 million in the last five years, have been expanded and improved to increase capacity and efficiency. The visit provided them with a firsthand look at a plant specializing in the production of medium-voltage electrical transformers with a high degree of digitalization and automation, designed to meet the needs of electrical grid operators and customers. The plant boasts an annual manufacturing capacity equivalent to 7 GW, enough power to recharge 100,000 electric vehicles.
Over the next five years, we anticipate a further investment of €15 million, increasing our production capacity to meet the demand for transformers for the electricity distribution network, electric mobility infrastructure, renewable energy generation, and data centers, among other sectors. We will also promote the implementation of technologies based on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data to optimize our processes.
Since its opening 30 years ago, the Loeches plant has established itself as one of the main economic and social drivers of its region, exporting to more than 20 countries and contributing to job creation, wealth generation, and added value. With a team of nearly 300 professionals, the facility maintains close collaboration with the industrial value chain, working in a coordinated manner to strengthen the local production network, as well as with local training centers and universities to promote regional talent.
Thus, the Community of Madrid is one of our strategic priorities, and we currently have a team of over 400 professionals there, including the team at our Getafe facilities, where more than 110 people work in applications engineering and customer support. Furthermore, we generate over 100 indirect jobs and invest more than 50% of our purchases in Madrid-based suppliers annually. All of this reaffirms our commitment to industrial activity as a driving force for transformation towards a more sustainable and efficient electricity grid, from the region where our headquarters have been located for almost six decades.
Technology, innovation and a commitment to sustainability are fundamental pillars of Ormazabal’s strategy, along with the promotion of key trends such as the energy transition, digitalization and cybersecurity.
In this context, we are firmly committed to R&D&I as a driver of competitiveness, with the aim of optimizing processes, managing facilities and equipment more efficiently, reducing operating and maintenance costs, minimizing environmental impact, and developing new products and services.
In 2024 alone, we allocated approximately 4% of our revenue to R&D activities, reinforcing our position as a leader in the development of advanced technological solutions for the electricity grid of the future.
