At Ormazabal, a manufacturer of technological solutions for the electrical grid, we are reinforcing our commitment to society’s energy transition with new investments in technology and innovation. Between 2024 and 2026, we will invest €20 million in our Igorre plant (Bizkaia), the company’s largest facility, with the aim of expanding our production capacity, improving the efficiency of our installations, and incorporating new Industry 4.0 technology to advance the energy, digital, and sustainable transition.
Thanks to this investment, we have deployed a new manufacturing line for SF6-free cell technology, an innovative and sustainable equipment solution that has been very well received by the market. This line began operating in 2024, and we are expanding its capacity to meet the demands of the sector. The objective of this industrial commitment is to make the Igorre factory the spearhead of production for our new cgm.zero24 family, guaranteeing the supply of this fluorinated gas-free technology for both the national and international markets.
According to Jorge González, CEO of Ormazabal, the energy transition “represents a huge opportunity for the reindustrialization of the country, for the generation of local value through a competitive and digital industry, high-quality jobs with top-level STEM profiles. An opportunity that we must seize as a society.”
The Igorre plant currently employs 600 professionals, and we anticipate continued growth thanks to this investment in R&D and new production lines. In this way, we are fostering wealth creation and strengthening our presence in the region, where our headquarters have been located for nearly six decades, through our commitment to industrial activity aimed at transforming and improving the sustainability of the electricity grid.
Commitment to technology and sustainability
Technology and innovation, a commitment to sustainability, and the promotion of key trends in the environment, such as the energy transition, digitalization, and cybersecurity, are the pillars of Ormazabal’s strategy.
In fact, at Ormazabal we are committed to R&D&I to boost our competitiveness, optimize processes, manage facilities and equipment, reduce operating and maintenance costs, minimize our environmental impact, and develop new products and services. Specifically, in 2024 we invested nearly €26 million in R&D&I and have a team of 115 people dedicated to research.
In the words of Ormazabal’s CEO: “Our commitment to technology and industrial development is aimed at the energy transition. All our solutions are geared towards facilitating an energy mix with a higher proportion of renewable energy, as well as the electrification of processes currently based on fossil fuels, such as transportation.”
