Ormazabal reduces its annual CO2 emissions by 43%

The use of energy from renewable generation sources accounts for 76% of the total and puts Ormazabal ahead of the European commitments for emissions reduction

Ormazabal’s strategic commitment to fighting climate change has enabled Ormazabal to reduce its annual carbon dioxide emissions by 43% by 2020, especially in indirect emissions, associated with energy consumption to maintain its business activity (the emissions derived from Ormazabal’s activity – divided into two subgroups: direct and indirect – are reduced from 2715 to 2400 tonnes for the first group and from 3085 to 893 for the second group).

Thus, Ormazabal’s firm commitment to renewable energy sources, a sector in which it is present to achieve a greener world for more than 25 years, has resulted in the fact that 76% of the total electricity consumed by the company comes entirely from renewable energy sources. A fact accredited by the corresponding Guarantee of Origin certificates accredited by Iberdrola and Naturgy. This milestone is particularly relevant given that 2020 has been a year in which electricity consumption has been higher than on previous occasions.

In addition, during 2020 Ormazabal has carried out another series of complementary initiatives in relation to the reduction of emissions, such as the review of the inventory of greenhouse gas emissions at its site in Igorre (Bizkaia), which concluded favourably; the calculation of the carbon footprint of its industrial plant in Seseña (Toledo); and the plantation of indigenous forests that will offset the emission of 137,11 tonnes of CO2 over a period of 40 years.
