More than 18 GW connected to the grid thanks to our wind power solutions in 2021

2021 has been a year of high impact on the supply chain and raw material prices have risen. However, 94 GW of new capacity was installed worldwide, making 2021 a new record year for the global wind power segment. It is worth noting that this represents 1.8% more than the 93 GW of installed capacity in 2020.

In this context, Ormazabal has contributed to this achievement by supplying and connecting more than 18 GW with our innovative and digitised complete solutions (more than 3 GW for offshore projects and more than 14 GW for onshore projects), which is also a new historical record for the company.

The global installed capacity until 2022 reaches 837 GW, which helps avoiding the release of more than 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2 each year into the atmosphere.

After a year of global commitments towards climate neutrality, the wind industry claims that, based on the revised climate policies by many countries, 557 GW of new capacity is still needed to be added over the next 5 years. This is a figure that will also allow a secure energy supply to be achieved.

At Ormazabal, we continue to reaffirm our commitment to research and development of new digital native solutions as key pillars of the energy transition, working closely with turbine manufacturers, technological partners, universities and the main players in the wind energy sector. Solutions that also guarantee access to clean and affordable energy for everyone (SDG 7).
